Important Information:
Digital cameras take photos of a different length to height ratio compared to
that of traditional film cameras.
Traditional film cameras take photos that fit a 3:2 print ratio. Typically
6x4inch or 10x15cm. Digital cameras on the other hand, take photos that fit a
4:3 ratio originally conceptualised from your computer monitor (640x480,
800x600). A 4:3 ratio does not fit standard traditional film print sizes. A
print from a digital camera will be 6x4.5" or 11.5x15cm.
The most obvious problem is that a 6x4.5" photo will not fit into a photo album
pocket designed for 6x4" prints.
To overcome this, we can print your photo onto a 6x4" piece of paper (commonly,
in the digital imaging industry, known as a canvas). We can do this either by
cropping the top and bottom of your image or by printing your image fully at
5x3.75" on the 6x4" canvas, thus producing white borders.
NOTE: Borders are uneven with standard border width top and bottom and
approximately twice standard border width on either end.
The simplest way around this problem is have us print your image full frame on
6x4.5" paper and put them into a drymount album.
